We are committed to reducing carbon emissions from our operations across four ASU campuses. We implement energy efficient operating procedures, often replacing aged equipment with ENERGY STAR rated or high efficiency models. Green Restaurant Certification

The Green Restaurant Association (GRA) is a 3rd party, non-profit organization dedicated to helping restaurants become more sustainable through transparent, science-based certification standards. Both Engrained and Barrett Dining, located on the Tempe campus, are proud to be 3-star certified green restaurants. Also,  ASU catering is certified as a 3-star green caterer.

Water Conservation

Sun Devil Hospitality is always seeking new ways to reduce our environmental impact, such as using the 'Boss Defrost' device. Typically, we defrost items ahead of time, but sometimes there are situations out of our control that require us to use the water-intensive slacking method. The Boss Defrost addresses this by using a powerful circulating pump to agitate and cycle water in a basin or sink, meeting health department requirements while reducing water use by 98.5%.

Green Captains

Our Green Captains are dedicated employees chosen to lead and promote sustainability efforts throughout our operations. They participate in monthly meetings and receive regular training on initiatives such as proper waste sorting to ensure our sustainability programs are effectively implemented.
